Growing our skills as scientists in Term 4

Sundial experiment

In week eight stage two made sundials. We made the sundials to see if we can tell the time by the sun.

Our class made paper sundials with plastic straws. We took our paper plates outside and traced them with chalk. We checked them every hour from 9 o'clock to 3 o’clock. We have now learnt that we can tell time by the sun bbut we only needed a quarter of the plate and the numbers were anticlockwise.

Our class also traced Keira's shadow. Her shadow got smaller when the sun was directly above her and when the sun was on the side she was extremely tall.
